As artsy fartsy of a person I like to think I am, I do tend to get a little too evil scientist with some of my projects (same thing can be said about my cooking). However, when I do fall under hard times and a project blows up (sometimes for real) it’s always a good learning tool.
My first big failed project happened right before Christmas. I was slaving away trying to make some cute gifts for new co-workers. I thought the perfect gift for this time of year would be hand painted cups with hot chocolate filled ornaments.
I rubbed chalk on a piece of paper so I could trace the picture onto the cup with a pencil. In the process of tracing it kind of etched the picture in the cup… something I did not want to happen.
After spending days painting and getting everything just right it was time to bake the cups to make the paint permanent. I got the cups ready and in the oven and about 30 minutes in, I heard a loud BOOOM!!!!! The cups blew up in the oven.
I don’t know if there were bubbles in the paint or because the cups had little crakes in it, but either way it was a deadly battle in the oven… the cups had no chance!
Now we know, and knowing is half the battle…
