Making the Perfect Letters

This sign was made with a framed canvas found at a thrift store. I trimmed the canvas and stained the edges of the wood. Then I added a little color to the background of the canvas.

I found the easiest way to transfer words is to use a word processing program. Find your desired font and print what you want to be on the sign. Then trim the paper to better fit the area of the sign. Now rub chalk on the back of the paper. I just used chalk from my dollar store!

Next, place the paper where you would like it on the surface (wood and canvas words great). If you use glass be cautious! Read about my failed experience with glass here.

After you have everything set in place, trace the words on the top of the paper with a pen. When you pick up the paper there will be a chalk outline of your letters. Here you can fill in the letters with a marker, paint, or your desired medium. I used a paint marker for my project.

This will work well for tracing images too!

Fun and easy! Enjoy!
